Free YouTube Thumbnail Prompt Generator

Turn the video you already have into a clear thumbnail direction you can use with ChatGPT, Gemini, Midjourney, Flux, or the image tool you prefer. Start with one strong idea. The tool handles the brief.

01 / Build the brief

Give the idea a focal point before you give it pixels.

Tell the tool what the video is about, who it is for, and what visual job the thumbnail needs to do. You’ll get four copyable image prompts, short text ideas, a layout plan, and the one change most likely to make the concept clearer.

Your entries stay in this browser. Nothing is sent to Instant Sales Funnels.

BRIEF CARD / 01 Give the model enough direction to choose a single visual story.

Be specific enough that a stranger could picture the subject.
03 / The rules that matter

A prompt doesn’t need more noise. It needs better direction.

Most weak AI thumbnails come from trying to show the whole video at once. Give the image model a subject, a visual tension point, and one simple place for your text. That’s enough to start.

01

Pick a focal point.

One face, one object, or one clear before-and-after. If you need to explain the image, it is probably doing too much.

02

Set the frame.

Ask for a close-up, a split comparison, a clean background, or a text-safe side. Vague framing gives you vague results.

03

Use contrast on purpose.

Contrast tells the eye where to land. It can come from color, light, scale, or a subject against a simple background.

04

Add type later.

Image models still make strange letters. Let the image carry the idea, then add your final two to five words in an editor.

Title and thumbnail

Let the title explain. Let the thumbnail create tension.

A title like “7 Roofing Mistakes Costing Contractors Thousands” already tells the viewer the topic. Don’t repeat it in tiny type. A thumbnail phrase such as “STOP THIS” or “$5K MISTAKE” gives the viewer a reason to look twice.

Use faces carefully

A face helps when the reaction is the story.

Use a person when their expression makes the problem easier to understand: concern at a damaged roof, disbelief at a bill, confidence beside a result. A random cutout face does not add much. For a software walkthrough, product review, or a detailed repair, the screen, product, or physical evidence can do the work better.

Keep the background quiet. A face, three props, a big arrow, five words, and a busy scene all compete for the same small screen.

The work after the click

The thumbnail gets the click. The video has to keep the viewer.

A thumbnail may get someone through the door. Bad pacing, slow intros, dead air, weak cuts, and boring footage can send them right back out. Learn how to improve your YouTube video editing so the promise in the thumbnail leads to a video worth watching.
